The MANGA. Yoake no Vampire
Art By Uboh Shinohara, scriped by Anne Rice

Yes in true Japanes Style they did a Manga for the release of the Film there.
We all know about the film and the book's and just about everything else IwtV related, but not many people know of the manga, I knew nothing about it befor there was a review of it in the only UK Manga Mag we have, Manga Max. But now The manga is verchaly like gold dust in a desert. I am privaliged to own the full scanned Manga on my hard drive that someone took a long time to scann, but du to copyright law's I'm unwilling to put the hole thing up for fear of my hole site being delitet. but dont worry I do have 2 galleris for it ^_^ anyhow, on with the Manga Review then on to the manga ^_^

The Manga Review by BANE
Befor seeing the Manga in entiraty

All I know about this Manga is what I've read from MM, I didnt even know it existed untill I
read the artical, and once I have the fundes I'm going to have to see if I can find it!

The Manga had to be illustrated quickly for the Japanease
releas of the film in 1994. The atchual book in Japanese was
500 pages long (the English copy I have is 368), so Shinohara
didnt have the time to do a high page count manga, so she was
restricted to only 182 pages. Shinohara had read IwtV and loved
it so she was forsed to (like the film) cut out some of her
favourite bit's. But by all acounts, she has keaped it as
fathfull as posibale to the story line, be that of the book or
film I'm not surtan.

The manga is an exallent example of how editing can streamline
a story. the atchual inteveiw is only put in when it will save
her space. She concentrates on 3 parts of the film, 1) Louis de
Pointe du Lac first breath in the vimprie world overseen by
Lestat de Lioncourt, 2) Lestat's attemped to keep Louis with him
by adding Claudia to there little covern as there daughter, and
finaly 3) The Parisian Vampires carrying out there Judgment on
Claudia for killing Lestat.

Unlike in the film they keaped the originale reson for Louis delirium
befor he became one of the dark-angels, which wasnt hs wife and child dieing
but his younger brother *Paul* who he loved dearly. she also keaped Claudia
as a six-year old, instead of about 12 that they had to do for the film.

But there is always one contrediction to ever story ^_^, the film
ended with Daniel (christian Slater) riding off in his car with
Lestat just having attacked him as they listen to 'Sympathy for the
Devil' by 'Guns n' Roses' (better than the stones vershen anyday!),
in the book, it ends with Louis sucking a snack from Daniel's neck
then disapering and then Daniel just leging it with the urge to
look for Lestat with the cluse Louis given him... BUT... with Yoake
no Vampire, oww no no no... we have a difrent ending all together,
It has Daniel *Molloy* stering after Louis', and
watching as the sun comes up over San Francisco. But Shinohara like
to signify birds or bats in the sky, every now and again, as
departing vampires, even though Anne stayed away from the
stereotipical theam (thankfully) Shinohara had Daniel looking at
the birds, remarking that this shall be his last sunrise, as his
hand falls from is neck it reveals the marks of Louis imortal kiss
(as it were). his is manly for the Japanes audians as far as I can
guess, with the enfasis on the risin sun, like earlyer in the book
when Louis is on about seeing his last sunrise.

A little unknown fact for Bishonen fans!

I'm not quite sure on this but I'll shere it with you anyway. this bit is take
straight from "Manga Max No14" because I wasnt sure on how to word it difrantly.
During the long gestation period of the Interview with the Vampire film, the rights at
one point resided Lorimar, who convinced Rice that the project would be unfilmable with
two mail stars. (what do they know!! befor this bit of the review there just going on
about the homoerotic overtones between Louis and Lestat and how an American market
couldnt stumack it but an Eastern one could. The gods help all thought homeophobic
ideats that read IwtV! even more so if it's the Vampire Lestat! But I supose it can be
given the excuse that Vampires dont need to procreat and that all the love they have for
one another is purly platonic... and for those of you out there that dont know what that
is it's like the love you have for a sibling of your mother... that dosnt apply to any
rednecks reading this ^_^ *snigger*, eep I'm loosing my self, carry on!) Instead, Rice
opted for another bishonen staple: cross-dressing. (ya.. and how many times has THAT one
been done?... *sigh*) She rewrote her original to suggest that Louis was actually a
woman, (ugg) disguised as a man in order to retain control of her plantation. 'to dress
as a man means to be a totally different legal entity,' she told Michael Riley in
Conversations with Anne Rice. 'I got enchanted whith the idea. I also felt that Louis
was me, and because of that the whole thing made better sense when it was a woman. (not
to us Bishonen fans it dosnt!) I dont see it as in any way betraying the material, (no
it's blooming sacralig! Blasfeemer!) but my readers let me know right away that they
didnt like it.' *end of review* (ya, I bet they let her know with hate mail probably!
or death thrats, if I'd read the damn thing and Louis turnd out to be a girl I'd
scream... and then send my own death threats ^_^ tehe... sorry Anne but we like it
because it's like it is.
